The National Space Academy, backed by the UK Space Agency visited Nunthorpe Academy on Tuesday to introduce some of our year 9 students to exciting curriculum-linked space technologies!
The session was a “Space to Learn Masterclass” based around science activities liked to space travel and how humans might be able to survive in space in the future. Students were given a taste of real rocket science as they built and fired their own hydrogen powered rockets, learned to control the rate of chemical reactions vital for survival in space and investigated the extreme adaptations that living organisms would need to live on distant worlds. They were even able to try on a real space suit!
The students were, not surprisingly, totally engaged with the subject and very much inspired by the numerous career possibilities in space technology and related industries! 🚀
